Lifestyle Photography – Memories of Magic and Madness
There’ll come a time in your life when memories of the little family moments that mattered most will fade – but with a family lifestyle photography session you’ll have access to those memories forever, just by opening your Photo Book or browsing through your Digital Collection.
“All children, except one, grow up. They soon know that they will grow up, and the way Wendy knew was this. One day when she was two years old she was playing in a garden, and she plucked another flower and ran with it to her mother. I suppose she must have looked rather delightful, for Mrs Darling put her hand to her heart and cried,
“Oh, why can’t you remain like this for ever!’
This was all that passed between them on the subject, but henceforth Wendy knew that she must grow up. You always know after you are two. Two is the beginning of the end.”
― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
Let’s be real though –
cherishing even the occasional moment can sometimes be a Facebook-
It’s hard to ask your brain to take a snapshot and do a gratitude shout-out during “normal” life.
Imagine you’ve just rushed home from an intense day at work, paying the excess for late day-care pickup (again). You’re trying to Masterchef some dinner, missing a key ingredient, while helping Daughter with first grade maths (that somehow seems like University level physics) and attempting to keep Toddler from “organising” ALL OF THE TUPPERWARE. Dear God, why is there so much Tupperware.
Can you picture yourself pausing in this moment to give thanks for how blessed you are?
I’m laughing right along with you, honey!
But these are the moments that make up the days of your family, and the childhoods of your precious babies.
These are the moments you’ll wish you remembered more clearly, paid more attention to, when those babies have babies of their own.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have a keepsake of these real life moments to treasure?
Lifestyle photos are your opportunity to get an incredible keepsake of genuine memories. Kristy Francois Photography will curate a beautiful hardcover book and a Digital Collection of family photos that you’ll cherish long after that 6 month old baby heads off into his own bright future.
Lifestyle Photography – Is It Right For My Family?
Working with a lifestyle photographer is a unique and special experience. It’s all about expressing the intimate magic in a family in the most natural way possible.
You won’t be subjected to any awkward, forced posing. That’s the opposite of what we’re trying to achieve.
If you normally spend all day in your yoga pants (like I do), I’ll encourage you to slap those yoga pants on for the photo shoot.
If your kid hates pants of all kinds, he can be his usual free, nakey-bot self in the pics. Let’s not put him in suspended trousers and boat shoes (unless you’d like to capture the moment he pulls them all off and tries to dress the dog in them)!
I’ll spend a day or half-day hanging out with your family, recording your unique story with my camera.
Your real story. In all the mess, chaos, laughter and affection.
The tantrums, the time-outs, the rare and exquisite naptime cup of tea.
I love chaos, laughing and cuddles, so bring it on!
As your lifestyle photographer, I’ll be in your home (or out and about with you, following your usual schedule) capturing the story of how your day naturally evolves, so you always have that reminder of the intimate connection you shared in those days.
Life is an adventure.
And adventures make great stories.
These family photos will tell the raw story of your family’s essence. All those crazy, cheeky, naughty moments of kids being kids that put a secret smile on your face (I’ll try not to snort-laugh my almond latte, but not making any promises).
It’s important for you to know that as much as you want to remember your child exactly as she was at that stage of life, when she’s looking at the photos as a thirty year old, she’ll want to remember who Mum and Dad were at that stage as well.
Your kids are smitten with you (even when they tell you they hate you and you smell like poop). They’re in love with your natural, gorgeous face, the scent of your 4 day old yoga pants, and exactly who you are in those quiet moments on the couch after a tearful tantrum (you or them, both are frequent in my house).
Lifestyle photos are about real life. You can gift your children with the essence of what was real for all of you in that moment in time. Anytime they see these photos, they will know and feel how loved they are and always were.
“When we saw our photos, we weren’t expecting to feel what we felt. We weren’t expecting to cry. Kristy’s photos speak massive stories to us of a big moment in our lives. Nobody outside our family would probably understand – we call Kristy our Family Insider – she somehow got all our inside jokes into pictures. There’s this family joke about how Raven’s one sock always magically disappears. Where does this one sock go? We cried when we saw this photo, and we know when we’re 70 we’ll look at it and laugh at his one sock,
and remember everything about our lives at that time”.
– Erika, Hamish and Raven
Of course, 12 months after your family photo shoot, you won’t be the same family.
Many clients benefit from doing a shoot every 12-18 months, so that they have the Story of Life of their kids – it’s a wonderful gift for an 18th or 21st birthday to present your new “adult” with a beautiful book containing the story of their life.
There will be love, laughter and sometimes tears, every single time those pages are turned.
Lifestyle photography can bring love and connection to your family for many years to come.
I’d love to be a part of making that happen for you.
“Things have to be in perfect chaos…
not in perfect order”.
– Kristy Francois
